Sport England receives and distributes funds provided through Government Exchequer revenues and the National Lottery.

Sport England is an organisation committed to creating opportunities for people to start in sport, stay in sport and succeed in sport. It promotes and invests in sport and is responsible for delivering the Government's sporting objectives. It believes sport has the power to change people's lives.

Sport England Objectives

  • Start: increase participation in sport in order to improve the health of the nation, with a focus on priority groups.
  • Stay: retain people in sport through an effective network of clubs, sports facilities, coaches, volunteers and competitive opportunities.
  • Succeed: create opportunities for talented performers to achieve success.

Community Club Development is an innovative exchequer capital intervention with 19 NGB’s and DCMS. It is an example of joined up thinking by Government (DCMS) and joined up delivery by Sport England working in partnership with NGB’s. Clubmark is one of 600 live projects in the £100m programme.

“Good quality community clubs around the country are absolutely critical in underpinning our national and international sporting success, helping us to identify and develop our future stars. Beyond this in the community, clubs are crucial as we work to inspire youngsters about sport and encourage them to stay involved and reach their potential. That’s what Clubmark is all about.” Stephen Baddeley, Interim Chief Executive, Sport England.
