Barnesbury Cycling Club becomes Northumberland's 100th Clubmark accredited club

A Bedlington-based cycling club was last week presented with its Clubmark certificate by  British Cycling North East.

Club coach Steve McIntosh and president Ben Walton received the certificate at an annual wards dinner.

Steve commented:

"The award illustrates the Club's commitment to develop pathways into cycling for young riders in south east Northumberland, giving parents confidence from the guaranteed standards of excellence in our activities."

Steven Parsons from Northumberland Sport,  stated:

"The accreditation is a great achievement, as they are only the second club in the county to achieve the award from British Cycling. The volunteers at Barnesbury have been able to continue the development of the club and access wider support from British Cycling and the Northumberland Sport to achieve the status of being a Clubmark club.
It is also a major achievement for Northumberland as a whole with Barnesbury becoming the 100th club to achieve accreditation in the cross sport national programme."

The Club is now looking forward to 2012 and developing coaching and sporting opportunities in cycling throughout the year to leave the Barnesbury's very own Olympic legacy in the Bedlington area.
