Record numbers cross the finishing line...

This month Sport England awarded four more sporting agencies a licence to award Clubmark taking the total number of licensed organisations to an astounding 42!! 

Clubmark club scoops award for school club links

Sport England has presented an award to five organisations that are excelling at getting more youngsters involved in sport, including Clubmark accredited North Dorset Rugby Football Club. The five grassroots gongs were presented as part of the inaugural Sport England Young People Best Practice Awards in Telford.

Tamworth VC Gain Volley 1 Accreditation

Tamworth Volleyball Club has joined an elite band of Volleyball clubs across the country in achieving Volley 1 (Clubmark) accreditation. Tamworth are now one of 38 Volley 123 accredited clubs across the country after the recent accreditation of Kings VC in Devon. Volleyball England set a target of having 40 accredited clubs by March 2009 and looks well on its way to meeting and surpassing this landmark.

Isle of Wight committed to increasing high quality sporting opportunities

The Isle of Wight's Sports Development unit is committed to increasing quality sporting opportunities on the Island. To this end, it has recently hosted its second club conference which included presentations on child protection, funding opportunities and Clare MacLeod's update on Clubmark.

... On a quarterly basis we produce vital management information to illustrate the current position of Clubmark to identify areas of strength as well as potential gaps that need to be filled.

This accurate and up to date information on the number and geographical distribution of Clubmark and working towards clubs with comparisons by month, sport and region enables Clubmark partners and stakeholders to implement measures and resource to effectively target support in the right places.

Figures for the latest quarter (July-Sept 08) reveal a 60-70% increase in the rate of monthly accreditations compared to the same period last year. An increase was recorded for each of the nine Sport England regions with the highest increase in the East, accrediting 41 more clubs than last year.

All NGBs are supporting this surge in accreditation rate, non more so than the LTA. Tennis Clubmark was launched in September 2007 and over recent months we have seen a huge increase in the number of tennis clubs achieving Clubmark accreditation, rising from only 12 clubs in April this year to at the latest count 195!

Sophie Keates, National Volunteer and Club Development Manager, set about re-invigorating Clubmark on her arrival at the LTA in 2007 who saw its potential to the future success of British Tennis. The completely re-worked resource pack was made available, in the first instance, to the regional development managers who were set high targets of accreditation. Furthermore, Sophie organised in house training to ensure that standards were consistent within and between regions.

Even with a trained workforce it is not always easy to encourage clubs to recognise the intrinsic benefits of club development. Consequently, the LTA took the strategic decision that it would only grant aid those clubs in receipt of Clubmark accreditation. This has been a massive incentive to clubs and it is expected that the rate of conversions in the final quarter of 2008 will increase yet again. With around 200 clubs now accredited and a further 500 working towards Tennis can be proud of the progress it has made in the last year.
