Clubmark newsletter - September 2007

IN THIS ISSUE

Making a difference...

Welcome to the September Clubmark newsletter. This month we are recognising the great work that our many partners and supporters are doing to improve the sporting experience for children and young people.

From increasing participation to training Olympic hopefuls clubs, NGBs and CSPs are driving the development of Clubmark. In this month's edition you can also read an article written by Steve Darlow of England Basketball, who describes Clubmark as "the development engine that has driven the game forward."

And with local authorities, facility operators and the education sector now starting to realise the benefits of supporting Clubmark clubs and those working towards accreditation the profile of Clubmark is rising, making it the national stamp of approval to which all quality clubs aspire.

Skipton Golf Club supports junior members

Skipton is one of only 32 clubs in the England to be awarded GolfMark by the game's governing body.

Richard Brown, Regional Development Officer for the EGU/ELGA said: "The club has one of the best run junior sections that I have come across and this is not just down to the organising team but the support from the club as a whole."

Olympic hopeful trains at Clubmark accredited club

Clubmark accrediting partner, GreaterSport, recently passed on a story that should be an inspiration to us all...

...Sport England Regional Director Stewart Kellett said: 'This is what 2012 is all about. Wigan Tri-Club is an inspiration. .

ASA accreditation on target

The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) is almost halfway to reaching its target of accrediting 800 clubs to its Swim 21 scheme by 2009.

The national governing body has endorsed 345 clubs since the initiation of the scheme in 2002, which is recognised by Sport England and provides Clubmark status.

Case Studies

Increasing youth participation threefold

Since achieving Clubmark accreditation in July 2003 Turnford Netball have increased their younger age group threefold.

The club now boosts 8 senior teams and less than 16 junior teams from under 9's all the way up to under 16's. The club has successfully completed its annual review this year as an England Netball gold CAPS club and continues to work towards the high standards that have been set.

Clubmark at the Centre of Basketball Development

The Clubmark programme has proved to be one of the best development tools for basketball in England in recent times. The last three years has seen a dramatic increase in accredited basketball clubs, along with a similarly significant, in fact extraordinary, rise in the numbers of young people experiencing the sport.

Operational update

Quality is key

The Clubmark database, published on the Clubmark website holds much needed information about accredited clubs across the country.

The valuable insight that this data provides is very much in demand, in fact it one of the most visited pages on the Clubmark website. The database is fast becoming a vital tool for partners and stakeholders, painting a picture of the breadth and depth of Clubmark clubs and maybe more importantly gaps by sport or geographical location.

This management information tool can only ever be as effective as the data it holds. We rely on our accrediting partners to supply quality information that is accurate and up to date. As the scale of Clubmark clubs grows, it is sometimes easy to omit small items of information, which may be of vital importance to someone else.

Over the coming months we would like to extend the information published to include the local authority and county sports partnership appertaining to a club. In addition we will be looking to publish the details of the thousands of clubs currently working towards accreditation.

KKP is committed to raising the profile of accredited Clubmark clubs and those clubs working towards accreditation so that local authority sports development officers, county sports partnerships and national governing body staff are able to clearly identify where to direct support.

Many of our partners have provided this data already, however there are pockets of incomplete fields. It is not only accrediting partners that can help to improve the quality of information. If you are aware of any discrepancies or omissions in the database, we urge you to contact us by email (mail@clubmark.org.uk). Local knowledge will hopefully mean this will only take a minute or two...on a national scale it is more of a challenge.

By working together we can ensure that this vital tool is of high quality just as the clubs that are involved in the only national cross sport accreditation programme.
