Clubmark awarded to Mavericks Wheelchair Basketball Club

The Mavericks wheelchair Basketball Club has been awarded Clubmark Accreditation.

Tina Gordon, National Junior Development Manager for the Great Britian Wheelchair Basketbal Association, said "The club has one of the best run junior sections in the national league which is down to good organisation throughout the club"

Junior members at Mavericks are actively encouraged to participate in the senior National League and are coached by ex Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Captain, Josie Cichockyj. Its no surprise to Josie that two of the Maverick Junior players, Laurie Williams and Nat Craig have competed for Great Britain in the European Championships, at the young age of 16 and 17 respectively.

Josie stated "our junior players are our future and we will do everything possible to support them as players and in preparing them for their future careers by developing them as people". This has included junior players attending coaching and volunteering courses, media and sports science workshops.

The club actively work towards creating a child safe, friendly and fun environment where every member respects each other and visiting teams. This is suppported by the clubs Child Protection, Health and Safety policies, codes of conduct for coaches, parents and supports.

The junior players enjoy nothing more than visiting schools and promoting the game with a view to encouraging new players to join the club.

The club has good school links and works very closely with the Manchester Basketball Sports Development group and the North West Wheelchair Basketball Management group to further promote and develop new programmes.

The club worked very closely with the Greater Manchester Sport Partnership, Club Development Manager, Jan Doyle in working towards Clubmark Accreditation. Jan's advice and support contributed significantly to the development of the Club. The club has nothing but support for the sports networks and partners that have made this proud achievement possible.
