Clubmark/GolfMark award for Barnham Broom Golf Club
Hard work undertaken by Barnham Broom Golf Club near Norwich has been recognised under a national golfing scheme aimed at improving the game for juniors and beginners.
The English Golf Union and English Women's Golf Association has presented the club with its GolfMark award which recognises Barnham Broom's work in providing many opportunities for junior and beginner golfers in a safe, welcoming and accessible environment.
In order to be eligible for the award, the club had to prove it had all the correct policies and procedures in place, that it offered an environment where staff and volunteers are trained to support the needs of juniors and beginners, and that youngsters are taught a game that will teach them respect, social & life skills, discipline and honesty.
Golf Club Secretary Robin Brooks said: "This is a great achievement and represents the culmination of many years' hard work in improving and developing the facilities at Barnham Broom for our younger members.
"As well as our highly respected Junior Academy which is now full with around 50 members, we also offer free membership for those under 14 and reduced fees for those over 14. Plus our resident Golf Professional Ian Rollett, assistant pro Matthew Gardner, junior welfare officer Dee Harrison and myself are all part of the team on hand to offer additional help and support."
