Eastleigh Multi Sports Club become the first disability club in Hampshire & IOW to achieve Clubmark
The Club is for young people who have learning and/or physical disabilities. It provides a range of activities throughout the year, aiming to give young people a chance to try something new, and to participate in an activity outside of school or college.
The emphasis is on having fun in a sociable environment and to help members improve fitness, coordination and sports skills.
Susan Perin Clubmark Officer stated:
‘We wanted to ensure that the Multi Sports Club was run professionally and along recognised guidelines, and going through the application and assessment process enabled us to achieve this. Although we had a number of processes and documents already in place, this focused our minds and enabled us to further develop in the right direction'.
The Club relies on funding to operate and it is an outstanding example of what can be achieved. During 2010 not only did it achieve Clubmark but also secured a Children in Need Grant for £38,000 to support multi sports sessions at a local special school over 3 years. For a full list of funding that the Club has secured in the past 5 years (totalling over £100,000) or for more information on, please visit their website http://www.multisportsclub.org.uk/
