PROFESSIONAL tennis coaches from Cheddar Tennis Club visited Axbridge First School recently and, according to head teacher Gillian Briggs, the pupils were inspired by what they saw.

The two coaches put on a demonstration of tennis skills in the school hall in front of the entire school and then invited youngsters to join in. Afterwards the children were given the opportunity to enrol in coaching sessions at the tennis club where the coaches run courses throughout the year for everyone from four years upwards.

Last year Cheddar Tennis Club became the first in the south west to achieve Clubmark accreditation. This is Sport England's national accreditation scheme for all sports clubs, aimed at raising the level of professionalism within clubs.

A major part of the award is for junior coaching and child protection practices. The club currently has well over 100 junior members as well as a thriving senior section.
