Two Volleyball Club’s Achieve Volley 3 Status

Newbury Volleyball Club and University of Birmingham Volleyball Club can today be officially unveiled as the first Volleyball Clubs in the country to achieve the coveted Volley 3 status.

Volley 3 is the top level of the Volley 123 club accreditation scheme and has an in depth set of criteria that build on the minimum set of operating criteria for a well run club as set out in the Volley 1 (Clubmark) award. Newbury and University of Birmingham have a dedicated team of volunteer committee and club members who have helped to develop three year club development plans, forms links with schools in different school sports partnerships and maintaining a clear and up to date club website.

Sue Sayers Club Secretary for Newbury VC said

"The club were delighted to hear that we have achieved volley 3. After our success last year being the first to volley 2 and becoming Club of the year are next aim had to be the first to Volley 3. Not having a National League team held us back we had everything else in place. Chairman Richard Cottle has worked hard over the last couple of months to secure a Newbury national league team for the coming season. As a club we must look for our next challenge. We are hoping that with all our achievements we can secure a better future for the club and for volleyball in Newbury."

Graham Fowler Club Chairman for University of Birmingham VC said

"Some of the structures and systems we have put in place during the accreditation process have given the Club a strong sense of direction for all those involved. We have also found it useful when working with schools and local community organisations, first by simply having accreditation with our NGB but also because we are able to show them, through the structures we have in place, that working alongside us will reap long-term rewards"

Newbury VC and University of Birmingham VC are also amongst the six finalists for the 2008 Volleyball England Club of the Year Award, the winner of which will be announced at the Awards Evening on Saturday 17th May at the Kettering Conference Centre.
