Number Of Clubmark Basketball Clubs Hits 90

With the recent accreditation of Taunton Tigers, the number of Clubmark basketball clubs in the country reached 90.

The Clubmark scheme is a Sport England initiative across a wide variey of sports. The accreditation is awarded to clubs who can prove that they provide a high quality and welcoming environment for young participants.

Tigers became the 13th club to achieve Clubmark status since the beginning of 2008 and were also successful in their application to become an England Basketball 4-star accredited club.   Another club who have received Clubmark accreditation recently is Beccles Bombers. The club has been providing coaching to junior players for upwards of 10 years and compete locally in Norfolk and Suffolk.

England Basketball's Clubmark Assessor Craig Costello stated: "The submission from Beccles made it clear that there is an excellent structure at the club. They are one of the smallest clubs to achieve Clubmark, but they obviously provide an excellent environment for young people to enjoy basketball and improve their game."

The club's secretary Matthew Wakefield commented: "Already the Clubmark award has increased the level of participation in the club. Parents are now aware of the high standards that the club work to, and also new coaches want the opportunity to work with club, to help the club and themselves develop in the future."
