Spotlight on… Alan Pink
Alan Pink is the Chairman of Kimberley Swimming Club based in Nottinghamshire. He also coaches and teaches at the club as well as getting dragged into wearing daft costumes at the club's presentation evenings!!
Alan became involved with the club 15 years ago when his son started swimming lessons and the club was short of teachers one night and was asked to help out on poolside.
Alan went along to a swim21 meeting in 2004, more out of curiosity, to see what was involved and how it would benefit the club. He reported back to the club, was appointed swim21 co-ordinator, collecting all the evidence required, actively involving other volunteers in the club and within 6 months the club was accredited Clubmark/swim21 status.
Since achieving Clubmark status Kimberley Swimming Club has become more ‘professional' in the way it is run, more pool time has been gained, more volunteers have been encouraged to gain qualifications, and more of its older swimmers now stay with the club in a teaching / volunteer capacity.
Alan said,
"Although the initial process of gaining swim21 and Clubmark status involved a lot of hard work, the positives have outweighed the negatives. I feel the club goes from strength to strength. Clubmark gives people the knowledge that the club is well run, safe and child friendly, which I think shows in our large membership and a large waiting list to join the club"
