Spotlight on…Louise Pennell
Louise Pennell plays a number of roles at Suffolk Spartans Powerlifting Club - coach, secretary and fundraiser. She is the main point of contact for people outside the club.
Competing within Powerlifting for several years, she was asked to get involved when Club was established in 2007. Louise was heavily involved throughout the Club's journey towards Clubmark accreditation. Co-ordinating the whole process, she also undertook a great deal of additional work, such as training records and performance awards as this information is not currently available from the NGB. Louise also produces training programmes for individual junior members; taking them to Competitions, even travelling abroad for International Competitions.
When asked how she and the Club has benefited from achieving Clubmark, Louise said,
"It has given me a better understanding of club development and the standards required for a club to be professional and effective for it's junior and senior members."
"The club has received more publicity as a result of achieving accreditation and that has led to us being more involved with the National Coaching programmes. The Club is also now involved with the Executive Board of the NGB, which will hopefully lead to an increase in our membership and Club athletes being selected for International Competitions. As a direct result of Clubmark, Suffolk Spartans Power Lifting Club is beginning to be regarded as a ‘Club of excellence' within the area."
