Spotlight on… Paul Chapman

Paul Chapman is Hon Secretary for Crawley Rugby Club. He deals with communication at all levels, is Webmaster for the club's website and arranges committee meetings and takes minutes.

Crawley Rugby Club has always been a part of his life. His father played & was Club Captain, he started playing for the U19's when he was 14 and at the age of 21he formed and coached the Clubs first U14 team, which became two teams (U14's and 16's) the following year.

Over his many years at the club Paul has also played Senior Rugby, coached all age groups including county and regional girls and held the positions of Youth Section Manager and Club Captain.

Who better then to take the Club through the Clubmar/ Seal of Approval process? Paul wrote all required job descriptions, policies, documented the development plan and compiled & maintained the file.

Paul said, "Crawley is basically a well run Club. Almost all positions (senior and junior) had job descriptions well before we heard of "Seal of Approval" and Crawley RFC had already published accident procedures, risk assessments, codes of conduct , development plan etc. covering all sections of the Club, not just the youth section. Applying and qualifying for the seal of approval was basically an administrative task re-formatting the information that was already available."

"Seal of Approval has helped the Club by making courses like "Child Protection" more available to our members. Also as we are one of a few other rugby clubs in our area to have received the Seal of Approval or are in the process of qualification, we have seen a general improvement in standards of care and organisation which has made playing away games a far better experience. "

However, he also feels that more should be done to publicise Clubmark and the Seal of Approval as he feels most parents and senior members have no appreciation of these quality marks.
