Spotlight on... Reg Challinor

Reg ChallinorReg is the Chairman of the Bedfordshire DanceSportClub, the first dance club in the country to achieve Clubmark accreditation.

Not only is he Chairman of the Club, he is also the person who instigated its formation 18 months ago and was the lead figure in collating the information required to apply for and achieve Clubmark status.

The Bedfordshire DanceSport Club is a voluntary organisation consisting of parents and teachers of the DanceSport Academy and is made up of children aged between 5-13 years old. Since its set up in 2008, it has promoted community participation in health and recreation for the benefit of the inhabitants of Bedford and the surrounding area.

The Club has worked on a number of projects to secure the advancement of physical education, provide fun and active opportunities to children and young people and the relief of those in need, by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship and other disadvantages.

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson said,

"This club has gained high level recognition from Sport England. Its commitment to dance and community involvement is very impressive and sets an excellent example. Gaining the Sport England Clubmark accreditation is no mean feat, well done to all those who made it happen".

Reg continues to work toward the development and improvement of the Club and has seen benefits in the form of improved working relationships with Sports Partnerships and more accessible routes to funding and training.
Reg's comments on Clubmark:

"The dance school business is by and large unregulated. Having Clubmark has enabled us to demonstrate that we are working and operating to nationally recognised standards and we now apply these standards to all our classes."
